*Greetings, I hope all is well with you...
Hello,
Welcome new subscribers, thanks
for being here! Without you, none of this would be worth
a hoot.
I hope the Holiday Season
treated you well! I went to Florida and saw family and friends,
kind of a reunion of sorts. I enjoyed myself, was great
seeing everyone. My brother cam from San Francisco, my parents
from Ohio, we stayed in Vero Beach and Orlando with my wife's
family, 2 dogs and a cat...crazy time!
An update to my
continued Internet marketing education, niches, and VPV...
Throughout the time I have
been publishing "Starting Smart!"
I have continued to learn. I believe that no one can know
everything and there's always other viewpoints from other
people who can help you make more money via the Internet.
From the publication and sales
of my 2nd book, "A
Practical Guide To Deciding Whether Or Not To Get A Divorce",
I've really seen first hand how important
finding a niche can be to your bottom line. In just about
any market, there are specific slants and niches that can
be subsets of the primary niche.
In this example, the primary
market is 'divorce' and it segments or 'further refines'
from there. Of course, there is a huge number of niches
within the divorce market itself, just like many other markets.
The trick is to find a specific niche comprised of people
who have a need or problem that they want to have fixed
or eliminated and that are willing to pay for that to happen.
To make traffic count:
I have enjoyed monetary gains by understanding that it doesn't
matter how many people (relatively) visit your website,
it matter who visits your website. On the
URL listed above, I average 25-30 unique visitors per day...certainly
not a lot of traffic at all. In fact, by traditional Internet
marketing standards, this is a very low amount of traffic.
But, I average 1 sale per day. Not good, but certainly a
good start.
I have established relationships
with the top divorce sites on the NET, and I am guessing
my traffic will just about triple because of it. Sales
will not automatically triple, I am estimating that they
will increase by about 2 and a 1/3 or so because the traffic
may not be quite as targeted as I am getting through search
engines.
Referring back to the 25-30
unique visits per day...
These 25-30 unique visitors
per day at the time of this edition of "Starting
Smart!" come only as a result
of Google and Yahoo! traffic based on the keywords I have
chosen. This example is here before any other marketing
has been done, this traffic comes from people searching
Yahoo! and Google.
1 sale per 30 visits = $29.97
per day (minus Clickbank's commission of course).
The conversion rate comes out
to around 3.33% which isn't bad, but not good enough for
me, I am working on increasing this with a goal of 15% (lofty
goal huh!).
The Value Per Visitor
(VPV) comes out to a little less than a buck. So,
imagine what can be done with 3 times the amount of increased
traffic that will come as a result of the affiliate and
JV relationships I have just made? I'm excited to say the
least.
Part of the conversion "success"
(although only 3%) is due to the uniqueness of the book
and the exclusivity of the offer.
See the July
18 edition of Starting Smart for an article about
exclusivity. The article is entitled 'The
Undeniable Value Of Differentiation'. E-zine
owners can get this article by sending an mail to article3@9mistakes-online.com
Speaking of producing solid
products and getting good conversion rates, you may have
heard of Michael Green?
Michael Green is truly one
of the good guys in Internet Marketing and I am quite impressed
with his ability to turn products out at a rapid pace. You
may have visited his forum and probably already know who
Michael is due to his reputation.
Given the time I spent on
my latest book, I really wish I could turn quality products
out at the speed Michael does, it is quite amazing. Michael
only spends 1 day a week, usually Friday, marketing his
online business. If you're new to the Internet marketing
world, it is hard to describe how amazing the information
above really is.
Talk about being organized...simply
put, WOW!
There's lots of talk on forums
from newbies finding a mentor, some of it true, some of
it total hogwash. But, if you are relatively new to Internet
marketing, I suggest keeping tabs on Michael, you will learn
a lot.
I won't list all 15 products
Michael markets, but here are the ones that pertain to Internet
marketing that you can use right now and I strongly
suggest you take a hard look at each of them!

Article:
"What
Size Web Pages Rank Highest?",
by John Ricerca
This is another one of the
controversial questions in many of the SEO (Search Engine
Optimization) forums, yet it is very easy to answer for
any particular search engine. While popular belief seems
to be that pages should be very short (less than 10K) to
rank well with the leading search engine, this article conclusively
answers that question... with a completely different answer.
The methodology is really
quite simple for this question. I gathered the results of
the queries I naturally performed last month using the leading
search engine and analyzed them. I had to visit each page
and write down the size of the page (not counting graphics...
just the size of the HTML). Those sizes were then tabulated
for the first 10 rankings and converted into a normalized
"ranking
correlation".
The resulting number shows
each group of page sizes normalizing into a number between
-100 and +100 showing the likelihood of being ranked higher/lower.
A value of +100 shows that all 10 rankings were in the proper
order to show that pages of the studied size ALWAYS rank
HIGHER than pages of another size. A value of -100 shows
that all 10 rankings were in the proper order to show that
pages of the studied size ALWAYS rank LOWER than pages of
another size.
Numbers in between show the
varying likelihood of rankings proportionally between -100
and +100.
That is the number you see
on the Y-axis. On the X-axis, we have groups of page sizes
varying from 0 to >100K bytes.
Here is the graph:
There is an obvious correlation,
which shows that pages of a size between 30K and 60K generally
rank much higher than shorter or longer pages. The peak
of the graph shows that pages between 50-60K rank the very
highest. This goes against the popular belief that states
that shorter pages
(less than 10K) rank highest. The popular belief is shown
to be completely inaccurate with this study.
Notes:
1. For the purposes of this
test, the actually page size in bytes was used. The page
was saved to disk and then the size of the file as reported
by the operating system was used. Graphics and any other
external references were completely ignored.
2. Over 1,000 queries and
over 10,000 sites were examined for this study.
3. There was no exercise to
attempt to isolate different keywords. I merely took a random
sampling of the queries I performed during the month.
Conclusion:
Pages of a size between 50K
and 60K rank best on the leading search engine!
This is merely a correlation
study, so it cannot be determined from this study whether
the leading search engine purposefully entertains this factor
or not. The actual factors used may be far distant from
the factor we studied, but the end result is that this search
engine does, in fact, rank pages between 50K and 60K higher
than pages of other sizes.
